SUPERHERO Pary Kit!!!

My little man is having his 5th birthday!! I cant believe it. What better way to celebrate then having a super awesome superhero party? I can think of none. The party will be this Sunday but we have been working hard to get some party favors together aka superhero kits!! I may be more excited about them then the kids will be. This is what we did...

Each kit is complete with a mask, cuffs and cape all put in a superhero bag! what else? I got the bags from oriental trading company and made the rest. (really easy) Ill be adding a few other things like some candy or whatever i find that fits the theme. Here is how I did it.

I made 12 masks to go with the 12 bags. (I really hope we have left over because I want one!!) They were super simple, made with foam sheets. You can make 6 or more with each large sheet. I then cut out the bolts in gold and silver sparkle foam sheets and bought a bag of stars in all different sizes and colors. (used the small ones on the masks and the larger ones on the cuffs.)

For the cuffs, i got kid sweat bands (again from oriental trading) They were the sports ones. Simply hot glue the foam stars on and BOOM cuffs!

Cape was made with black fabric. Sew about a half inch around the 2 sides and bottom edge. I used yellow to sew with.

Along the top fold over around an inch and a half to give room for a piece of ribbon to go through (adjust to how thick your ribbon will be)

Last pull the ribbon through and your cape is done!... almost.

With felt we made another bolt and for Kove a K of course and the other kids at the party a bolt and star.

DIY Cutting glass bottles.

I have seen this a ton on other web site and thought i would give it a try. Its a super fast project if you already have everything at home (I did) all you need is,

-Glass bottle

-Yarn

-Nail polish remover

-Lighter or matches

-Sink of cold water

Easy right? I used some corona bottles we had to test it, and find the best way. I would try it out on a spare bottle first so you get an idea of how it works. The steps are really easy, i found and watched a few videos on youtube to get an idea of how it would work.

Wrap the yarn around the bottle 5-6 times (I was using thin yarn, and found it to work a bit better with more like 6 or 7 times around the bottle) tie it off and take the yarn off the bottle and soak for a few seconds in the polish remover. Put the yarn back on the bottle. Then over the sink of cold water light the yarn and rotate slowly. When the flame is just about out, dunk it in the cold water.

Ok, now here are some tips. As you can see the bottle broke about a half inch below the yarn. So i tried it again and put the yarn up higher so i would get a cut right above the words rather then right through them. It worked ok, but with the curve of the bottle it was kind of a pain to keep it in the right spot.

After a few min of playing with fire and glass bottle in the kitchen my husband decided to come join and noticed that when i was holding the bottle i was tilting the top of the bottle down and suggested i try tilting it up in order for the break to be on the other side of the yarn. DUH!!!!! Tried it again and it worked much better.

It wasn't a super clean break because of the curve of the bottle and where i had the yarn.(ill put it a bit lower next time) It doesn't really matter because we will sand it down to (cross your fingers) make cups. I haven't taken the time to sand them yet but plan to asap. The fire part is much more fun.

DIY Play kitchen!!

This year for Christmas we made out boys a play kitchen out of an entertainment center we got at the DI for $10!! It was such a fun project and the kids LOVE it!! Here are some before and after pic's.

After! Its pretty amazing what some paint, new hardware and a broken faucet off craigslist for $5 can do!

Winter Headband

Here are some cute easy headbands. Made from fleece with some cute embellishments. I used Velcro on the ends so it can adjust to head sizes.

After making them for family, I thought how great they would be for small girls with Velcro bows so you could change out the bows or whatever else you want to put on it. If you have any questions on how i made them, please let me know!!

Kid Bag! (or any other kind of bag)

Here are some cute, simple, bags for kid! For all the toys that come with a ton of tiny pieces and always get lost. They were super easy to make. Probably took me 15min a bag.

All you need are 2 pieces of fabric. I cut mine to 9x9 square but you could make them any size you want, And around a 18in of cord to fasten the top part of the bag. I'm sure any kind of ribbon would work as well.

First put the 2 right sides together and sew along the length of one edge. Easy right!

Along the top edge fold over about an inch and sew along entire length of the top, making a "pocket" for the cord or ribbon to slide through.

Sew along the bottom and other edge ALMOST to the top. You don't want to close up where the cord will go through. Pull your cord through the top pocket made (i use a safety pin hooked to the end of the cord to make it easier to pull through) and flip the right way and you are done!!

I'm sure you could use all kind of fabric you have around your house, an old shirt or sweater and some left over ribbon and you I'm sure you can come up with all kinds of amazing things! Use them for holiday treats, or gift bags. The possibilities are endless!!! Enjoy and if there are any questions Please let me know!!
